Methodology
Where the data comes from
IFSCDetails is built from the open IFSC dataset published by Razorpay, which is compiled from Reserve Bank of India data. It lists 1,82,523 bank branches across 260 banks. We restructure it into pages you can browse by bank, city and state, and search directly by IFSC code. We are not the RBI, not a bank, and not affiliated with any bank.
What the codes mean
IFSC (Indian Financial System Code) is an 11 character code the RBI assigns to a bank branch for electronic transfers. The first four characters are the bank, the fifth is always a zero, and the last six identify the branch.
MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) is the 9 digit code printed at the foot of a cheque and used for cheque clearing. 1,52,832 branches in our directory carry a MICR code.
SWIFT (also called BIC) is the code used for international transfers to and from a bank. 11,880 branches carry a SWIFT code in the dataset.
NEFT, RTGS, IMPS and UPI
These are the ways money moves between banks in India. NEFT (National Electronic Funds Transfer) settles in batches and works for any amount. RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) is for larger transfers, usually 2 lakh and above, and settles in real time. IMPS (Immediate Payment Service) is instant and available around the clock. UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is the instant mobile system used through apps, where you usually send to a UPI ID or number rather than an IFSC. Where the dataset records which modes a branch supports, we show them on the bank pages.
How often it updates
The dataset is refreshed periodically from its public source. Even so, bank branches open, close, merge and change details all the time, and any dataset lags reality. Treat everything here as a reference, not an official or live record.
Confirm before you transfer
Always confirm the IFSC code and the account number with your bank, or read them from a cheque leaf, before you transfer money. A wrong IFSC or account number can send your money to the wrong account.
Report a correction
If a code or address looks wrong, tell us and we will check it against the source. You can also email corrections@ifscdetails.in.
